For some people, 10 years is a long time. For me, this is only the beginning! Hello my name is Troy, and I'm passionate about design and development.
From a very young age, I have always shown an interest in art and could always be found doodling on anything that I could get my hands on; from paper, to napkins at restaurants, even walls in my parents basement. As I got older, I found myself replicating blocks and pages from my favorite comic books, designing posters and banners on our first family computer, and much more.
I completed the three year graphic design program at St. Lawrence College and moved to Ottawa in the summer of 2000, doing freelance work. In the summer of 2001 I was offered a full time design job with the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, with the main focus on aiding in the production of University Affairs magazine and their advertising and marketing efforts. Sometime back in 2007 I was introduced to WordPress and was immediately drawn into it’s ease of use and potential in customization. I spent a few months trying out free themes, hacking around with their coding, just testing whatever was there to get a feel for how the product functioned.
In January of 2009, I had an opportunity to join the web team at Carleton University to aid in their efforts to implement WordPress as a CMS. This was a large undertaking, but one that I was excited to be a part of. I was responsible for overseeing the installation, upgrading and migration of roughly 28 faculty and departmental sites from a legacy content management system into a custom built WordPress CMS.
To say that design and development has been a 10 year career isn’t entirely accurate. I’ve spent an entire lifetime working hard to perfect my craft, something that I will do each and everyday.
